Educational background
Dr. Marcela Huertas Bello earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá, Colombia. She then pursued an ophthalmology residency at the National University of Colombia, graduating with a Meritorious Mention for her thesis.
She subsequently completed a research fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, one of the most prestigious ophthalmology institutions in the world.

Dr. Huertas Bello held several key roles in public and private healthcare institutions. She was an ophthalmologist at Clínica de Ojos as well as an emergency room ophthalmologist at Méderi University Hospital in Bogotá. She also taught and mentored ophthalmology residents and medical students at Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá.
