What to expect during LASIK
If you’re wondering how LASIK eye surgery works and whether it’s right for you, then it’s time to set up a free, no-obligation consultation. Our team of experts at TLC Laser Eye Centres is happy to answer all of your questions and concerns.
Your first appointment at TLC will be a free, comprehensive consultation in order to determine whether you’re eligible for LASIK eye surgery or another vision correction procedure.
During the consultation, a specialist will conduct a series of painless, diagnostic tests that will enable us to determine your candidacy.
If you wear contact lenses, please read through our contact lens policy before attending your consultation.
After your eligibility has been considered, we’ll determine the best procedure for you.
Our experts will explain the recommended vision correction procedure and will provide you with precise, surgery-specific pricing that outlines the cost of the surgery. If you’re determined to be a good candidate, you’ll also be given pre-operative instructions to follow before your scheduled surgery.
What can I expect during my LASIK surgery?
On the day of the surgery, you’ll have another consultation in which a LASIK specialist will explain the different steps you’re about to go through. They’ll also provide you with all of the necessary post-operative instructions, such as how to use eye drops and when you can get back to your typical day-to-day activities.
Prior to the actual procedure, your eyes will be numbed using anesthetic eye drops. You may also be offered a mild sedative to help you relax. It’s completely normal to be a bit anxious ahead of your surgery, but many people are surprised afterwards by how quick and virtually painless the procedure tends to be. The procedure generally requires 10 minutes of operating room time in which the laser is used for less than a minute on each eye, usually lasting for 20 seconds.
LASIK recovery
You won’t be able to drive immediately following your LASIK eye surgery. Please plan your transportation accordingly. You may want to ask a friend or family member to drive you home, where you will need to rest for the remainder of the day.
You may experience some temporary mild irritation or discomfort, which can easily be treated with over-the-counter pain medication. Your doctor will provide you with detailed post-surgical instructions and will also schedule you for follow-up appointments to monitor the post-operative progress.
Patients are typically back to their everyday routine within 24 hours of their procedure.
LASIK results
LASIK patients typically experience improved vision directly after their surgery, from the moment they sit up in the operating room. Results generally continue to improve in the hours and days afterwards. LASIK has a very high satisfaction rate, as many former patients love the sense of freedom they feel from no longer needing glasses or contacts.
Many LASIK patients feel more confident and appreciate the convenience that LASIK brings into their lives.
